Social Development / Gender Specialist

About the role

SMEC, a transport and energy infrastructure design and engineering firm, is looking for an experienced Social Development / Gender Specialist to join its consulting team for an upcoming feasibility study of a road/infrastructure project in the Solomon Islands. The specialist will lead social and gender-related assessments.

Key responsibilities

• Lead social and gender-related assessments for the feasibility study.
• Ensure the project appropriately considers gender equality and social inclusion.
• Make sure vulnerable groups, community needs, accessibility and the equitable distribution of project benefits are taken into account.

Required profile

• University degree in social development, gender or social sciences, or another related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience conducting poverty, social and gender analysis in the transport sector.
• Experience supporting governments or working on multilateral development projects to prepare and implement gender components of road transport projects.
• Familiarity with gender-inclusive policies, including the prevention of gender-based violence in transportation.
• Fluent writing and speaking English is mandatory.
